atidhṛti

atidhṛti f. (-tiḥ) A kind of metre, a stanza of four lines, with nineteen syllables in each line.

atidhṛti Tatpur. f. (-tiḥ) ¹ The name of a class of metres

which are regulated by number and quantity. See ati-

cchandas. It comprises thirteen varieties and consists of

a stanza of four lines with nineteen syllables in each

line. (See ¹ śārdūla or śārdūlavikrīḍita, ² meghavisphurjita or

vismita, ³ pañcacāmara, ⁴ puṣpadāman, ⁵ bimbā, ⁶ chāyā, ⁷ maka-

randikā, ⁸ samudrataṭā, ⁹ surasā, ¹⁰ maṇimañjarī, ¹¹ candramālā

or candra, ¹² dhavalāṅka or dhavala, ¹³ sambhu.) ² (In arithmetic

sometimes used to denote) the number nineteen. E. ati

(sc. krāntā) and dhṛti (in the sense of the accusative) ‘going

beyond the metre dhṛti q. v.’.

atidhṛti ati-dhṛti, is, f., N. of a genus of

metres belonging to the class Aticchandas, and con-

sisting of four lines, each containing nineteen syllables;

(in arithm.) nineteen.
