1 The name of a class of metres
which are regulated by number and quantity. See ati-
cchandas . It comprises thirteen varieties and consists of
a stanza of four lines with nineteen syllables in each
line. (See 1 śārdūla or śārdūlavikrīḍita, 2 meghavisphurjita or
vismita, 3 pañcacāmara, 4 puṣpadāman, 5 bimbā, 6 chāyā, 7 maka-
randikā, 8 samudrataṭā, 9 surasā, 10 maṇimañjarī, 11 candramālā
or candra, 12 dhavalāṅka or dhavala, 13 sambhu .) 2 (In arithmetic
sometimes used to denote) the number nineteen. E. ati
(sc. krāntā ) and dhṛti (in the sense of the accusative) ‘going
beyond the metre dhṛti q. v.’.
