    Goldstücker Sanskrit-English Dictionary

    p. 45, col. 2.
atharvī Tatpur. f. (-vī). This word occurs only in the Veda

and is explained ‘not going, unable to move’, from a

neg. and tharvī (from tharv, to go). It would seem, how-

ever, that it is a Tatpur. composed of the obsolete word

athar, fire, and vī, ‘surrounded by fire’(?). See the E.

    of atharvan and atharī.
