átas, Ablativ des Deutestammes a, und den Ablativ von idam vertretend in allen Zahlen und Geschlechtern. Doch findet sich in den Veden kein Beispiel, wo es unmittelbar einem Substantiv beigeordnet wäre. An einigen Stellen weist es auf Personen hin, nämlich {147,5} „vor dem Menschen schütze uns, welcher u. s. w.”; {640,18} „selbst von denen her, welche auf die schönspendenden Marut's Anspruch haben, und selbst auch segnend wandeln, wendet euch her zu uns, o jugendliche (Marut's)”; {388,4} „dessen Vater, dessen Mutter, dessen Bruder der starke (Indra) tödtete, vor dem weicht er nicht zurück.” Die verschiedenen Bedeutungen des Ablativs treten hervor, namentlich 1) schützen vor, 2) fliehen vor, 3) aus dem Vorrath mittheilen, 4) nach Comparativen: grösser u. s. w. als dieser, 5) daraus oder von daher entsprossen, geboren, 6) von hier, 7) von dorther, und zwar ist hierbei die Oertlichkeit (von wo aus) meist durch ein vorhergehendes (oder folgendes) Substantiv genau bezeichnet, seltener 8) durch einen parallelen Relativsatz mit yátas oder yás ({640,18}; {346,3}); 9) zeitlich: darauf, dann, 10) auch mit vorhergehendem Relativsatze mit yádi oder yád.
