    arh, ursprünglich argh (S. argha), gr. ἄρχω [Cu. 165]. Der sinnliche Grundbegriff ist vielleicht „glänzen”, wenn anders die Glosse des Hesychius ἄρχειν λάμπειν Geltung hat. Dann würde unsere Wurzel mit ar (aruṣa), arc, arj zusammenhängen und aus ar erweitert sein (vgl. für den Bedeutungsübergang arcita und arhita „geehrt”). Im RV 1) etwas [A.] verdienen, d. h. Ansprüche oder Recht darauf haben; 2) etwas [A.] aufwiegen, d. h. ebenso viel werth sein; 3) mit dem Acc. des Inf. können, vermögen.
