1. araṇi, is, ī, m. f. the wood of the Ficus Re- ligiosa used for kindling fire by attrition; the lower one (adharāraṇi) of the two Araṇis; (ī), du. the two pieces of wood used in kindling the sacred fire; (is), m., N. of several plants, especially Premna Integrifolia; the sun; fire; a flint?; (is), f. a way, a path. —Araṇi-mat, ān, atī, at, related to the two Araṇis; to be produced by the Araṇis. —Araṇī-ketu, us, m. the Premna Integrifolia.

(generally distinction is made between the lower one and the upper one, adharāraṇí and uttarāraṇi, the former may also be meant by araṇi alone without adhara)

aráṇi und aráṇī, f., das Reibholz, durch dessen Reibung an einem andern Feuer hervorgebracht wird; wol als das in Bewegung gesetzte, sich bewegende [ar 1. 6] aufgefasst (vgl. dhamáni von dham, dhmā); im Dual die beiden gegeneinander geriebenen Holzstücke.
