apalāpadaṇḍa

apalāpadaṇḍa Tatpur. m. (-ṇḍaḥ) (In Law.) The fine inflicted

on a defendant for denying a charge on which he gets con-

victed; it consists in payment of the whole value of the

object of litigation to the king, after the claimant has re-

ceived his due. (Mitākṣara: …pratyarthī tadā dadyāddhanaṃ

prakṛtamarthine rājñe ca tatsamamapalāpadaṇḍam). E. apalāpa and

apa-lāpa—daṇḍa m. a fine imposed on one who denies or evades (in law).
