apānaḥ Breathing out, respiration (opp. prāṇa); prāṇāpānau samau kṛtvānāsābhyaṃtaracāriṇau Bg. 5. 27; one of the five life-winds in the body which goes downwards and out at the anus (apanayanānmūtrapurīṣāderapāno'dhovṛttirvāyurnābhisthānaḥ); mūtraśukravahovāyurapāna iti kīrtyate. —naḥ naṃ The anus (ādhāre ghañ). Comp.—dā giving Apāna. —dvāraṃ the anus. —pavanaḥ, vāyuḥ 1 the life-wind called apāna. 2 ventris crepitus. —bhṛtf. a sort of brick (cherishing the life-wind apāna).
