    anyatas ind. Used in the same manner as 1. the ablative and

    2. the locative of anya, absolutely or with the ellipsis of a

    word implying ‘place’, ‘manner’ &c., viz.

    1. = the ablative of anya, ‘from another’; e. g. bhāvitaṃ

    pakṣato'bhīṣṭau tyaktvā varṇau sarūpakau . anyato bhāvitāṅkena

    tataḥ pakṣau vibhajya ca &c., i. e. ‘removing the factum from one

    side and the simple colours and absolute numbers from the

    other, as optionally selected, and dividing both sides of the

    equation by the coefficient of the factum &c.’; also with a

    noun depending on it in the ablative, e. g. in the comm. of

    the Kāsikā on Pāṇ. IV. 1. 40. ‘topadhādanyataḥ prātipadikā-

    dvarṇavācino'nudāttātstriyāṃ ṅīṣpratyayo bhavati.

    2. = the locative of anya and in the same sense as anyatra,

    viz. 1 In another, on another; e. g. anyato vṛttau (comm.

    = anyatra jātau) ‘in another way’; or in Hemachandra's

    explanation of vijñāna, ‘mokṣe jñānaṃ vijñānamanyataḥ, i. e.

    jñāna means (knowledge of what concerns) final emancipa-

    tion, vijñāna other (knowledge), where anyataḥ represents

    the locative anyasmin, the explaining words being put in

    the locative, and does not mean ‘in another case, else-

    where’. 2 (Scil. deśe) Elsewhere; e. g. pratipattiśūnyamutthā-

    pyānyataḥ pravṛttaḥ; or yānto'nyataḥ…ātmavargyāḥ; also re-

    peated: ‘in one place--in another place’, e. g. aśṛṇvanna-

    nyataḥ śabdaṃ prapalāyanta cānyataḥ . ākrandamanyato'kurvestenāhanyanta

    cānyataḥ ... Comp. anyatovāta. 3 (Scil. deśe) In one place,

    in one direction (ved.); comp. anyatoghātin, anyatomukha,

    anyato'raṇya. 4 (Scil. deśe) On the other side, on the con-

    trary. 5 (Scil. prakāre) In another way or manner, otherwise;

    e. g. vāṣpabharastayā calitayā niḥśvasya mukto'nyataḥ. E. anya,
