anupasaṃhārin Tatpur. m. f. n. (-rī-riṇī-ri) (In philosophy.)

Non-exclusive, purely affirmative, as an argument of all-

comprehensiveness whose subject does not exclude any thing;

as such an argument would lead to a conclusion of a purely

formal kind, i. e. to no real conclusion, anupasaṃhārin is

the characteristic of one of the modes of hetvābhāsa (q. v.)

or ‘semblance of argument’; compare also anaikāntika. E.

a neg. and upasaṃhārin.

anupasaṃhārin m. A kind of hetvābhāsa or fallacy in Nyāya, a subdivision of the anaikāṃtikahetvābhāsa; vastumātrapakṣako'nupasaṃhārī that is, that which includes every known thing in the pakṣa and thus prevents the corroboration of a general rule of causation by illustrations, positive or negative; as sarvaṃ nityaṃ prameyatvāt; atra sarvasyaiva pakṣatvāt prameyatvaṃ heturanupasaṃhārī anvaye vyatireke vā dṛṣṭāṃtābhāvāt.

anupasaṃhārin m. ca anvaye vyatireke ca dṛṣṭāntarahitatvena duṣṭohetuḥ .
yathā sarvamanityaṃ prameyatvādityanumāne sarvasyāpi pakṣatvena
anvaye dṛṣṭānto nāsti nāpi vyatireke dṛṣṭāntaḥ, sarvasyāpi
prameyatayā tadabhāvasya kutrāpyasiddheḥ . “tathaivānupasaṃhārī
kevalānvayipakṣaka” iti . “ādyaḥ sādhāraṇastu syāda-
