antarikṣam, antarīkṣam [antaḥ svargapṛthivyormadhye īkṣyate, īkṣ karmaṇi ghañ, antaḥ ṛkṣāṇi asya vā pṛṣo˚pakṣe hrasvaḥ ṛkārasya rirtva vā Tv., according to Nir. antarā dyāvāpṛthivyoḥ kṣāntaṃ avasthitaṃ bhavati, or antarā ime dyāvāpṛthivyau kṣayati nivasati; or śarīreṣvantaḥ akṣayaṃ na pṛthivyādivat kṣīyate] 1 The intermediate region between heaven and earth; the air, atmosphere, sky (antarā dyāvāpṛthivyormadhye īkṣyamāṇaṃ vyoma Śay.) divaṃ ca pṛthivīṃ cāntarikṣamatho svaḥ Sandhyā Mantra; yo'ntareṇākāśa āsīttadantarikṣamabhavadīkṣaṃ haitannāma tataḥ purāntarā vā idamīkṣamabhūditi tasmādantarikṣaṃ Śat. Antarikṣam — the Bhuvarloka or the region between

earth and heaven.¹ One account is that Yayāti made this

his abode when he was sent away from heaven;² to be pro-
