agniśāla

agniśāla Tatpur. f. n. (-lā-lam) The house where the sa-

cred fire is kept. E. agni and śālā, the latter part of the

compound remaining fem. or becoming neuter.

agni—śaraṇa or agni—śā́la [AV.], n. or house or agni—śālā, f. place for keeping, the sacrificial fire.

agniśā́la (agni + śālā; vgl. P. 2, 4, 25. 6, 2, 123.) n. Wohnung des Feuers, mit dem technischen Ausdruck prācīnavaṃśā śālā genannt: hàvìrdhānâmagnìśālàṃ patnī̂nā̀ṃ sadânàṃ . sadâḥ . sadô dèvānā̂masi devi śāle .. AV. 9, 3, 7.

agniśā́la m. und °śālā f. = agniśaraṇa

Agni-śāla. — This term, which designates part of the sacrificial

apparatus,¹ is applied in the Atharvaveda² to a part of an

ordinary house, presumably the central hall where the fire-
