    adbhutaḥ a. [Uṇ.5.1 adi bhuvo ḍutac; according to Nir. na bhūtam 'the like of which did not take place before.] 1 Wonderful, marvellous; ˚karman of wonderful deeds; ˚gandha having wonderful smell; ˚darśana, ˚rūpa; prodigious; extraordinary, transcendental, supernatural. -2 Ved. Unobserved, invisible (opp. dṛśya). -tam 1 A wonder, a wonderful thing or occurrence, a prodigy, miracle; deva adbhutaṃ khalu saṃvṛttam Ś.5 a wonderful or unexpected occurrence; ākālikamanadhyāyaṃ vidyātsarvādbhuteṣu ca Ms.4.118. -2 Surprise, astonishment, wonder (m.) also; ˚udbhrāntadevāsurāṇi vikrāntacaritāni U.6 lost in wonder. -3 One of the five proportions of the measurement of height; in this measurement height is twice the breadth; hīnaṃ tu dvayaṃ taddviguṇaṃ cādbhutaṃ kathitam Māna.11.20. 23. -taḥ 1 One of the 8 or 9 Rasas, the marvellous sentiment; jagati janitātyadbhutarasaḥ U.3.44. -2 N. of the Indra of the 9th Manvantara. -Comp. -uttarakāṇḍam N. of a work, an appendix to or imitation of the Rāmāyaṇa. -enas a. Ved. in whom no sin is visible. -dharmaḥ a system of prodigies. -brāhmaṇam N. of a portion of a Brāhmaṇa belonging to the Sāmaveda. -rāmāyaṇam N. of a work ascribed to Vālmīki. -śāntiḥ f. N. of the Sixtyseventh Pariśiṣṭa of the Atharvaveda. -saṃkāśa a. resembling a marvel; so ˚upama. -sāraḥ the wonderful resin (of the khadira or Catechu plant) (Mar. khairācī rāḻa); Mimosa Catechu. -svana a. having a wonderful sound.
