abhinanda Tatpur. 1. m. (-ndaḥ) A proper name of: ^a. a com-

mentary or a commentator on the Amarakosha; ^b. the author

of a compendium of the Yogavaśiṣṭha.

2. f. (-ndā) ¹ A sensation of pleasure, a sensation of

voluptuousness; e. g. Śatapath. or Bṛhadār.-Up.: yoṣā vā

agnirgautama tasyā upastha eva samillomāni dhūmo yonirarcirya-

dantaḥ karoti te'ṅgārā abhinandā viṣphuliṅgāḥ (Bṛh.: vi-

sphuliṅgāḥ); Dwivedaganga or Śaṅkara: abhinandāḥ = su-

khalavāḥ. ² Wish, desire; e. g. Suśruta: dāhaprapākau śiśi-

rābhinandā dhūmāyanaṃ…pittābhipanne nayane bhavanti . uṣṇā-

bhinandā gurutākṣiśophaḥ kaṇḍūpadehau sitatātiśaityam &c. [It

might be possible to look in these instances upon the word

as upon a plural of a masc. abhinanda; but in the quoted

passage from Suśruta it is more natural to take it as the

singul. of a femin., as has been done by a modern Paṇdit

who explains: abhinandā icchā . yathā . annābhinandā.] E.

aff. a (comp. Pāṇ. III. 3. 103.).

abhinanda, called also Gauḍābhinanda, son of Bhaṭṭa Ja-
yanta (Vṛttikāra), son of Kānta, son of Kalyāṇa-
svāmin, son of Śaktisvāmin (minister of Muktāpīḍa
Karkoṭavaṃśaja), son of Mitra, son of Śakti, a Gauḍa.
He is quoted by Kṣemendra in Suvṛttatilaka 3, 16.
29. Śp. p. 4. 6. 27. Skm. Dhvanyālokalocana, Ujjva-
ladatta, and others. In a stanza of his Skm. 3, 52
he praises Rājaśekhara as a contemporary. In another
stanza Skm. V, 129 he mentions Bhavabhūti, Bāṇa,
Kamalāyudha, Keśaṭa, Vākpatirāja:
