mbhārdhapalaṃ vipācya pibedabhīkṣṇaṃ kuḍavārdhamātram; or Bhaṭṭik.:

icchantyabhīkṣṇaṃ kṣayamātmano'pi na jñātayastulyakulasya lakṣmīm;

or Sāhityad.: vinayati sudṛśo dṛśoḥ parāgaṃ praṇayini kausu-

mamānanānilena . tadahitayuvaterabhīkṣṇamakṣṇordvayamapi roṣara-

jobhirāpupūre; or Kṣīrasv. and Vardhamāna (the author

of the Gaṇaratnam.): abhīkṣṇamāsphālayatīva kumbham; or

Bhāgav. Pur.: abhīkṣṇāvagāhakapiśāñjaṭilānkuṭilālakān .

ātmānaṃ cogratapasā bibhratī cīriṇaṃ kṛśam. ² Constantly,

always (Amarak. &c.); e. g. Kṣīrasv.: abhīkṣṇaṃ vakti.

³ Much, exceedingly, eminently (Trik., Med., Śabdar. &c.);

e. g. Kenopan.: athādhyātmaṃ yadetadgacchatīva ca mano'nena caita-

dupasmaratyabhīkṣṇaṃ saṃkalpaḥ (Śaṅkara: = bhṛśam). ⁴ Quickly;

(Hem., Med., Śabdar.). [The word is said by some comm.

on the Amarak. to be used also in the three genders; but

this assertion appears to be founded only on the circum-

stance that it occurs in other Koshas also amongst the in-

flected words; its form, however, is always there abhīkṣṇam

which might apply as well to an adj. as to an indecl.; e. g.

Rāmāsrama: ajayastvabhīkṣṇaśabdamanavyayamapyāha . anavyayapra-

karaṇapāṭhāt). E. That given by Rāmāśr., Bhanūjid. &c.:

kṣṇu with abhi, kṛt aff. ḍam, and bhi being protracted be-

cause the form belongs to the pṛṣodarādi, is not very

plausible; Yāska explains the word as a contraction of

abhikṣaṇam; but as the protraction of the final vowel of

abhi in compounds points either to a kṛt deriv. with ghañ or

kvip or to the loss of a following a (comp. abhīka II. and

abhīpat), the word is better considered as an Avyayībh.
